Pequeños Libros para el Pequeño Lector
Small Books for Small Readers
When co-founder Janike Ruginis became a mom, she quickly ran into the difficulty of finding children’s books that were entirely in Spanish, age appropriate for children up to 3 years old, and focused on infusing Latin American and Caribbean culture into their storylines. Sister (and aunt) Alexis Ruginis noted the exact limits in the books she found for her nephew.
Raised in Colombia and bilingual, both mom and aunt have teamed up to create Veoleo,a small press that focuses on producing board books that are small in size for small hands, entirely in Spanish to emphasize language immersion, an accessible translation for reference, and storylines that are witty, fun, interesting, and infused with Latin American and Caribbean culture.
Veoleo’s board books will teach each small reader about language and culture while opening the doors to imaginative exploration.
Janike Ruginis teaches language and culture and is passionate about books. Her love for books has guided her through her career, starting in the publishing industry in New York, then during her doctorate degree, and now teaching at a university in Atlanta.
Alexis Ruginis is an avid learner of languages; deeply believing that language informs the way we see the world. With a legal background spanning almost a decade, she has had the opportunity to help diverse clients - ranging from corporations to creative entrepreneurs.
